Queer Mythologies- Paper Puppets

Queer handmaking is queer world making. We take limited options and adapt them to meet our needs. In this project you are invited to play and create your own fantastical bodies and queer mythologies. You are asked to take a template for a jointed doll and use its restrictions as an invitation to break the format. You are invited to imagine bodies and stories that celebrate how our bodies and stories reimagine and rupture the templates we’ve been given. The fantastical and imagined body is a site of trans desire and self-determination. How do we discover ourselves and our identities through play? Can play and imagination open up the possibilities of what we can desire for ourselves, our bodies, and our world? Can creating our own mythologies create visibility and belonging outside of storytelling traditions in which we are often erased or demonized? What does it mean to embrace the demon, the monstrous, the alien, the queer and to celebrate its presence within you?
